Just 1 day to go until we arrive in 2018, and I am getting nervous. Why? That I cannot quite explain. I find it very exciting: a brand new year, new opportunities, new challenges, new goals… yes, everything new!
It’s that fresh start, 365 days. Today, I want to share a ritual with you which will help you in achieving your wishes 🙂
When I was 17 years old I read somewhere that writing down short and long-term goals will help you achieve them. I did that and, however crazy it might sound, it worked! I had written down five goals of which I achieved four. Unbelievable, right?
With a brand new year is awaiting us, I thought this is the best time of the year to share this ritual!
The Magic Jar…
Take a jar (or a box with a lid), paper chits, a pen and plenty of time at a peaceful place. Each chit should have one wish for 2018. You can have ten, but also 25; as long as you really want those ”things”, just write it down. It can be anything from a wish to get promoted to a wish to buy your own car to a wish to feel more positive. Anything is possible: emotions, career accomplishments, materialistic things… After all, it’s the Magic Jar 🙂
Back then, I wrote down “I wish I graduate without any delays” (in the Netherlands, delays at universities are very common due to students switching study programs or just taking it easy, without having any consequences), and I achieved it!
Also, at that time I had gained weight and I wanted to lose it. Therefore I wrote “I wish I become fit“. Achieved it as well.
See, I wasn’t constantly focusing on the chits, I don’t even remember really being bothered by it. I just wrote it down and saved it in my wallet, where I saw them each time I opened it.
It might sound over-the-top and childish, but my experience has been that this small little ritual will really help you focus on:
- What do you really want out of life?
- What matters to you?
- What makes you happy?
- What are your wishes?
Once you have made your chits, fold them a few times and put it in the jar (or box) and keep them in a spot in your home where you see it regularly. Simply seeing the chits will do the trick!
I feel that consciously or unconsciously we work hard towards those wishes, without obsessing about them. When we see them, our brain probably works towards achieving them, by taking small and steady steps.
Don’t go crazy with this, but definitely do believe in your Magic Jar. The most exciting part will be opening all the chits on December 31, 2018! Believe me, you will be amazed by the results.
I would love to know if you are creating your Magic Jar!

See you next year.
