The importance of H2O, also know as water, should be taken seriously as approximately 60-70% of your body consists of water!
You might be thinking: “so what?” Or: “I drink enough water!” Or maybe: “I know that water is important to my body.”
Well, knowing that something is important doesn’t mean that you benefit from just knowing it, you actually have to take actions, you have to do it – DRINK IT! Moreover, we all have had that intolerable thirsty feeling during a hot summer day. Do you know what that means? You are already late and your body is dehydrating!
In this post I will give you an in-depth explanation about:
- The purpose of water in our body;
- The benefits of keeping your H2O level balanced;
- How much should you be drinking;
- Level the H2O, NOW.
You may have pre-conceived notions about the importance of water. You may even think some of those claims may be overblown. However, I am pretty sure that after reading this post you will understand that that is just your head giving way to ignorance, and you will hopefully really understand the importance of W A T E R !
If you want to walk and talk properly, all it takes is water. It might sound a little over-the-top, but believe me it’s true.
Your cells, organs, joints, spine and other sensitive tissues need water to function. Also, it helps regulate body temperature. So, if you feel cold the entire day, regardless of the weather, it might be due to a lack of water intake.
And, as if that wasn’t enough, water also helps to move food through your intestine 🙂
Let’s go deeper into what water actually does to our body if taken in the right daily amounts.
As a Beauty Blogger, the most important benefit is: (1) Flushing out the Toxins! Through sweat and urine all the waste in your body gets out. Moreover, it improves blood flow allowing your skin to remain moisturized, while also increasing the elasticity in your skin.
If you want your skin to look, feel and be healthy, then there is nothing more or less you can do but to drink sufficient water. It’s as simple as that and your hair benefits as well!
Then there is (2) Calorie Control. The Internet is full of all kinds of crazy dieting tricks, most of which just work for a short period. How can water help you control your weight? Just drink 2 glasses of water, 30 minutes before having food.
Why? It will make you feel less hungry, which helps tame the urge for food when you’re hungry. Hunger mostly leads to over-eating as you gulp your food and you don’t give your brains the time to react on the capacity of your stomach.
The next benefit is (3) Happy You. Drinking enough water, as you read above, has a lot of benefits inside out, meaning that it also controls your mood (swings) to an extent. It’s very logical if you think of it:
When the inside and outside works and looks better – no bloated feeling, tighter muscles, weight loss, and healthier hair and skin – you automatically feel better and happier!
How does that work? A hydrated body has major effects on productivity and brain function.
It makes you focus better and keeps your refreshed. No signs of headache or any other irritating feeling. And, of course, if you feel good you will be positive and have more energy to spend on better things.
This easy question does not have a very easy answer. There are a few factors to consider, such as how active you are, where you live and your overall health. Each plays a big role determining the appropriate intake for a person.
The 8 glasses rule which we often hear about is actually the minimum regardless of your lifestyle. Moreover, if you are looking for a concrete number, I might disappoint you as I can’t tell how much you should be drinking daily.
However, I can give you guidelines.
- It’s almost impossible to over-hydrate yourself
- Yellow (dark) colored urine is a bad sign, meaning: drink much more water
- You might need to go to the loo very often, this means your body is working with the water (it’s flushing out all toxins)
- Drink as much as you can
- There should be no signs of headache or a heavy head
- Your skin feels more hydrated
- Concentration level is higher
- Your mood is better and you feel happier
These guidelines might seem very obvious at first, but they are not. Many of us don’t consider water intake as a serious matter.
I understand, that it’s hard to drink water all the time. We forget, it’s boring, tasteless and there are many more excuses.
In the next section, I want to give you tips and tricks on how to drink more water 🙂
H2O: Drink it, no excuses!
Personally, I have started drinking a lot of water. Why and how? Thanks to my husband, who always has a bottle of water with him. From working on the desk to being in the car and going to bed. Sometimes, I feel a little jealous, as the bottle of water is more with him than I am – lol!
All jokes apart, this really helps! I am a lazy person when it comes to self-care. At night, if I feel thirsty, I will keep telling myself: “Ankita, just go to sleep, ignore it.” But now, I just ask my husband to pass the bottle of water and I take a few big sips 🙂
Therefore, 1. Always keep a bottle of water with you, everywhere.
2. From routine to habit. A while back, I promised myself to drink water as soon as I get up in the morning. Now, a few month later, I feel thirsty when waking up so I drink 2 glasses of water every morning. Great way to start your day!
3. Need a reminder? Put an alarm that goes off every hour to simply remind you to drink water. This will keep you hydrated throughout the day, without having to worry about forgetting to drink. Morover, there are plenty of Apps on the market when it comes to reminders – also specially designed for water drinking reminders.
4. Jazz it up! I know, many of us just hate the ‘taste’ of water, or simple hate drinking water. There is a solution to that: make yourself a big jug or bottle of your own created water with taste.
It’s simple: just add a few slices of lemon, cucumber, strawberries or maybe oranges – actually, whatever you prefer, and fill it with water. Taaadaaaa, water with taste and still healthy!
The last, 5. From routine to habit. This tip is easy to incorporate in your routine. Simple, just drink 2 glasses of water every time you do a bathroom break and (30 min) before every meal also have 2 glasses of water.
This will lead to constant hydrating throughout the day.
All in all, if you understand the importance of H2O, I am sure neither I nor anybody else has to convince you of staying hydrated! Follow the tips, stay healthy and stay happy!
